Biology help?

Because it makes it easier to split apart the DNA for replication while keeping the backbone intact. Like a zipper. You need a strong back and an easy to disrupt middle. It avoids having pieces break up and float away and basically completely messing up the code. (Note: I haven't double checked this in my genetics books but I'm fairly sure that's the reason why)
