Fridge taints food with disgusting taste, mom won't do anything about it?

My guess is it's something like garlic or onion in there uncovered.Check through the contents & if you find it put it in a plastic container with a lid or wrap in several thicknesses of aluminium foil.Remind your mother to do the same in future.
