How can you tell if you've been ignored on facebook?

go into your friends list. it will list all your friends, even the ones you've requested (under the ones you requested but aren't yet your friends, it will say friend request pending or something of the sort), and as for the email thing, the answer to that is yes, they will still receive the email.
