Is Tracy Turnblad from Hairspray based at all on C Elliot from The Mamas and the Papas?

I saw a doentary on BBC4 about 60s music recently. The way C Elliot dances while performing, and her frame, reminded me of Tracy from Hairspray. Are they connected in any other way?
